Total beginner question — what actually *is* Claude? Is it a chatbot, a website, an app I install? Trying to get the mental model right before I touch anything.

Same here. I keep hearing the name but couldn't really say what it is.
I've only ever used ChatGPT. What's the actual difference between Claude and ChatGPT, and is there a reason I'd reach for one over the other for work?
The Claude UI keeps mentioning 'Projects' and 'Knowledge'. What are those, and do I need to set them up for everyday tasks or are they an advanced-only thing?
What makes a good first prompt? I usually type one vague line and the answer comes back generic. How do I write one that actually gets me something useful?
